The art and design national curriculum at key stage three aims to provide
pupils with the opportunities to explore traditional media including paint,
drawing, printmaking and sculpture as well as new media incorporating the Internet,
computer enabled devices, animation, and digital photography to name a few.
This broad range of media supports pupils in developing confidence, competence,
imagination and creativity. Pupils work with a range of media to communicate
ideas and meanings, and they learn to appreciate and value images and artefacts
across times and cultures. Pupils reflect critically, on their own work and
other peoples, judging quality, value and meaning. They develop an appreciation
of art, craft and design and its role in the creative and cultural industries
that enrich their lives.
At key stage 4 we follow a two year, full time AQA art and design specification.
This is a broad course exploring practical, critical/contextual work through a range
of 2D and/or 3D processes and new technologies. The course allows pupils to work in
appropriate art, craft and design materials and working methods.
Pupils produce a portfolio of work worth 60% of the overall marks and complete
an externally set exam lasting 10 hours worth 40%.
