This is a wonderful course for anyone who thinks they might like to work
in a care setting - school, nursery, hospital, care home or in social care.
Pupils can go on to follow this area of study at 6th form or college
or take an apprenticeship in any one of several areas. We have many former
pupils who have been successful in this subject and who have gone on to use
this knowledge in their career - teacher, psychology pupil, nurse, radiographer,
care workers, teaching assistant, nanny and nursery nurse.
We have 3 lessons a week - a single and a double. The content of the units can
be taken into any workplace as the skills we look at are applicable anywhere- it's
all about understanding the art of speaking and listening, ensuring we give people
dignity when we deal with them and evaluating work experience by looking at what is
provided.
The pupils are assessed by completing 3 large pieces of coursework;
Unit 2 - Communicating with service users in a care setting,
Unit 3 - Practical caring and Unit 15 - Work experience in a health
and social care setting.This is marked internally and then checked by
a visiting moderator.
Award - worth 2 GCSEs grades A-C
