Subject information:

The three main science subjects are taught in distinct blocks covering
all of the fundamental topics in each area.

In Year 10 GCSE 'Science A' offers pupils:

In Year 11 GCSE 'Additional Science' offers pupils:

Additional Science places a greater emphasis on explaining, theorising and modelling science.

KS3 information:

All pupils follow a broad and balanced curriculum covering the three main science
subjects together with 'How Science Works'. Pupils are challenged to think scientifically
and work logically through a range of relevant problems. They are assessed regularly by tests
and levelled tasks to ensure that they are on track. An emphasis on practical work and use of
ICT in lessons aims to encourage pupils to be actively engaged in their work. Pupils begin their
GCSE Science A, half way through Year 9.

    The course is assessed by 3 written exam papers; covering Biology, Chemistry
    and Physics. These are taken in January and June and are each worth 25% of the
    overall grade. Pupils also do a controlled assessment called an ISA. This is a
    practical assessment of their scientific skills, worth an additional 25% of the
    final grade.
